Volley Like a Palm Tree

Quick Tips Pickle4 Team 06-05-2025

When a pickleball comes flying right at you, your first instinct might be to block—but moving your feet can help you stay on the offensive. By adjusting your position, you set yourself up for a stronger, more controlled volley instead of reacting defensively. Of course, when you’re at the Kitchen Line facing a fast power shot, you might not have time to reposition your feet. In those moments, think like a palm tree: keep a strong, stable base and let your upper body do the work. For example, if you’re a right-handed player setting up for a forehand volley, shift your upper body slightly to the left to create space and better strike the pickleball. This controlled sway helps you avoid getting jammed and allows for a cleaner, more aggressive shot. The next time you’re under pressure at the net, remember to stay rooted, sway smart, and volley with confidence.
