Your pickleball performance is shaped just as much off the court as it is on it. Research shows that while doubles pickleball does elevate heart rate, it often doesn’t provide enough steps or sustained moderate-intensity activity on its own to meet weekly cardiovascular guidelines. In many sessions, players spend only about half their time at a moderate intensity, with fewer steps than activities like brisk walking.

That’s why overall health habits matter. Adding intentional aerobic exercise, along with proper hydration, sleep, nutrition, and recovery, helps build endurance, improve balance, sharpen reactions, and reduce fatigue late in games. When you take care of your body consistently, you give yourself the foundation to play longer, move more efficiently, and enjoy pickleball at a higher level.
