Breakthrough Golds & Familiar Dominance
The PPA Tour stop in Lakeland delivered a mix of dominance and breakthrough moments. Anna Leigh Waters continued to set the standard, capturing yet another triple crown to headline the weekend. Men’s singles stole the spotlight with first-time medalists making their mark. Roscoe Bellamy earned his first PPA gold, defeating Hunter Johnson in the final, while Noe Khlif secured his first professional medal with a bronze finish. In men’s doubles, Ben Johns and Gabe Tardio added another title to their growing résumé, reinforcing their status as one of the tour’s most dangerous pairings.
The APP Mesa Open featured significant shakeups and milestone victories. Ronan Camron claimed his first APP gold in men’s singles with a win over Will Howells, while Sofia Sewing stayed red-hot, earning her fourth straight singles title. Mixed doubles saw Megan Fudge and Jack Munro continue their dominance, defeating the No. 2 team of Bobbi Oshiro and Will Howells. Men’s doubles saw an unexpected turn as the top team of Howells and Munro fell in the Round of 16, opening the door for Robert Slutsky and Zach Taylor to make a surprise run to the final before falling to No. 2 seeds Max Manthou and Erik Lange. In women’s doubles, Fudge and Jill Braverman remained the tour’s gold standard, capturing their ninth title together.
USA Pickleball Nationals delivered high-stakes matchups and repeat champions. Patrick Kawka emerged on top in men’s singles, defeating recent gold medalist Ronan Camron for the national title. Sofia Sewing continued her remarkable run, winning women’s singles gold and adding a second title by claiming mixed doubles with Casey Diamond after defeating the top-seeded team of Megan Fudge and Jack Munro. With his usual partner sidelined, Munro teamed up with Richard Livornese in men’s doubles, and the duo found their rhythm at the right time, clawing their way to the final and securing the national championship. In women’s doubles, Megan Fudge and Jill Braverman once again proved their staying power, defeating Simone Jardim and Christine Maddox to repeat as national champions.
